What to do!? What to do?!

Well, I recently had an order-a rush custom order go unpurchased! Usually I don't make anything until I have recieved payment-but I made an exception this time...and well...I ended up not getting payment!
So, what to do? What to do?
The pieces were a cake size princess castle and carriage, so super cute I couldn't just let them go to waste! So one day this past week we made a cake! I think it is way cute, I wish it was my birthday cake! Since it wasn't for anyone specific my husband, son and daughter all got to help-oh and how they loved to help make it and sneak little bits of all the frosting and chocolate rocks! My husband ended up taking it to work-because honestly there is no way my little family could eat a three tired cake-we love cake-but that is just way to much cake!
So check out the next two posts to see the cake and its details!

The Castle and Carriage Cake

The whole cake!

Castle and Carriage Cake

Fondant Green Trees and chocolate candy rocks sit next to a stream of blue buttercream icing-yum yum.

The whole thing! The top cake is the bottom of a giant cupcake mold-in a dark chocolate cake, the middle is a moist yellow cake 8in round, and the bottom is just a chocolate cake 10in round cake.

What princess wouldn't want to attend a ball at this beautiful castle? Or ride in the delicate carriage?

Blue Geometric Shapes and cake

What a fun cake this on turned out to be. A friend asked me to make a cake for her husband's Birthday, her instructions were very simple, "different shades of blue and geometric shapes." Well, this is what my husband and I came up with!
The cake itself was a dark fudge chocolate with a chocolate ganache filling. And then, of course, lots of blue geometricly shaped fondant.

School is out!!

Even teachers are excited they made it through another school year! This cake was made for a group of wonderful middle school teachers. The cake was a moist butter cake with buttercream frosting. The "school supplies" are out of fondant.

Cupcake Tower

I absolutely LOVE the giant cupcake pan, so here is my fun way to make a towered cupcake/cake.

The giant cupcake and standard sized cupcake are a yummie butter cake with pink buttercream frosting. The top cupcake is a fondant cupcake topper, soon to appear in my etsy shop with some other fun fondant desserts!

I wanted to make Easter themed cupcake toppers this past spring. I came up with three different animals which most easily and recognizably represent one of my favorite holidays; they are sheep, rabbit and baby chicken.

The sheep was really fun to make, my favorite is the little pink flower on its fluffy wool.

The rabbit is such a centerpiece to any easter holiday, so I just had to make one. Its floppy ears give it just the right touch.

Spring has many meanings, and the one I like to reflect on most is new life. What better way to show this than a newly hatched chick.

I had a great time passing these cupcake toppers to start the season off.

Coconut Anniversary Cake

I love creating new cakes. Sometimes I get an idea stuck in my head and I cannot shake it loose until I actually make it. In this situation, I just had to work with shaved coconut.

The second tier of cake was offset to one side to emphasize the texture the coconut slices were already creating. I added some beautiful flowers I had picked up at the local flower market, and came up with a fun, simple and elegant anniversary cake.

Both tiers were made with white cake; the top tier had a lemon filling, and the bottom tier had a strawberry filling. I put a crumb coating on the cakes to help maintain crumb control prior to frosting them. I used a white buttercream frosting and pressed the coconut shavings lightly into the frosting so I could emphasize the coconut more than the frosting.

3-Tiered White Scroll Wedding Cake

I decided to pull out one of my "fancy" big cakes from my archieved portfolio. I was definately challenged on this event, and worried to death that something would happen to one of the pieces during transit (could you just imagine if something did happen?). Luckily, between my driver and regular traffic patterns, the cake arrived in the same three pieces I sent it in.

The challenge of doing my first cake project of this size was making certain that all of my pieces were perfect. A wedding cake can make or break a ceremony. I went over and over each tier eliminating any flaws I came across. With a large cake, this can sometimes take a while (let me tell you...).

The three tiers were made from chocolate cake with a vanilla custard filling, as well as a white cake with raspberry frosting. The frosting was made from an Italian Buttercream frosting.

Frog Princess Cake

Long before Disney made a movie...there was a book...A book I just loved! The Frog Princess by E.D. Baker...Well, at the time my husband and I lived in a town where the university hosted a "Books to Eat" contest, where contestants made a cake or other edible item that depicted a book. This cake was actually my very first time working with fondant! I think it turned out pretty good... :) It won audiance favorite!!!
