Beehive Cake

I was inspired to make a bunch of fondant bees one day, and needed someplace to put them; so I made a beehive cake. I enjoyed creating this cake, and making it come to life.

I used a dark chocholate cake with an 8 inch base and a 6 inch top to give it the look of a classic beehive. The cake is covered with a light yellow buttercream frosting and a darker yellow buttercream to imitate honey dripping down the sides. I made fondant flowers and piped leaves and vines for dramatic effect.

Ocean Cake

My husband volunteered me to make this cake for a friend the day before their birthday. Talk about pressure, but I love to make cakes so much that I just jumped right in and this is what we finished with.

I was hoping to give the impression of ocean life near coral.

With the short time limit I had to work with, I used what I had on hand to make this cake. I used a yellow cake on an 8 inch round, with two cupcakes on the top to give it a little extra dimension to it. I used a buttercream frosting, and applied it in a manner to imitate waves.

The fondant ocean life were a blast to create; coral, anename, starfish, tropical fish and octopus.

Valentine Cake

I was asked to make a valentine cake for a couple I am acquaqinted with. They have a couple of very nice cats and had given me quite a bit of freedom on how to design this cake. I enjoyed this project and especially watching their faces light up when they received it.

I used a Dark Chocholate cake with a chocolate truffle filling, topped with a white fondant. The hearts on the bottom were hand colored in fondant as well.
